Legumain was ranked 6th out of the 30 most abundant CHO host cell proteins (HCPs) in one study of host cell proteins in batch and fed-batch CHO cultures. Legumain is a lysosomal protease that forms acidic charge variants by removing a functional group from asparagine residues (asparagine deamidation) of monoclonal antibodies, negatively impacting therapeutic antibody quality1.
