Growth hormone polypeptide secreted by the anterior pituitary in animals including humans, mice, and rats1. Receptors for growth hormone are found throughout vertebrates such as on adipose tissue, muscle, and the liver. The hormone has many functions in rats and mice including helping to maintain carbohydrate and lipid homeostasis and control growth1.
